The Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, in cooperation with Norwegian People's Aid (NPA), signed a partnership agreement to work on a project combating violence against women, under the title \"Towards a society free of violence against women\", with its programmes and activities to be carried out over four years.
\nTaking part in signing the new project were Jenny Oskarsson, representative of Norwegian People's Aid in Palestine, Mahmoud Hamada, finance director at Norwegian People's Aid, and programmes director Widad Nasr, who were received by deputy director general Mr. Iyad Abu Hjair and projects director Abdel Moneim Al-Tahrawi.<\/p>\n
At the contract signing ceremony, the representative of Norwegian People's Aid in Palestine said: \"We are proud of our close relationship with the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution over the years, during which the Centre has become one of the principal organisations working purposefully and with expertise to help women subjected to violence and to support them in various forms.\" She expressed the hope that the new project would achieve its general objectives of supporting women subjected to violence in the Palestinian territories and of carrying out varied and creative activities and programmes in the coming period.<\/p>\n
For his part, Hamada expressed his pleasure at the achievements of the Conflict Resolution Center in supporting marginalised women, and at its dedication to standards of quality and competence in the activities and events carried out throughout the Centre's professional journey. He wished the Centre further excellence and success in the coming phase, and greater networking and communication, stressing the philosophy of partnership between Norwegian People's Aid and the Conflict Resolution Center.
\nFor her part, Nasr thanked the management of the Conflict Resolution Center for its continuing efforts to empower women subjected to violence and to give them the chance to be reintegrated into society, and praised the high professional performance of the Conflict Resolution Center at its branches in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and its concern to develop community work for the benefit of Palestinian women.<\/p>\n
For his part, Abu Hjair valued the continuing efforts of Norwegian People's Aid and offered thanks for the good relationship between them and the Centre, as well as for the effort made through the project to reduce violence against this important group and to reintegrate them into society by providing a range of psychological, social and legal services for women. He added: \"The Centre's policy is clear in reaching out to a number of groups with influence in society, such as reconciliation figures and mosque imams, as well as carrying out a range of important programmes and projects in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.\"<\/p>\n

In his address, Al-Tahrawi explained that over the previous three years the project for supporting and empowering women benefited 14,497 cases from 2012 to 2014, among them around 5,662 women who received psychological support services and 1,635 who received legal support, in addition to 1,459 cases that benefited from the family meeting-point service. He explained that the coming years will see greater cooperation with decision-makers and civil society organisations in order to ensure progress towards a society free of violence against women in the Palestinian territories.<\/p>\n
He pointed out that the Centre will focus its work within a mobilisation strategy aimed at increasing pressure on decision-makers in order to bring about a fundamental change in the concepts relating to violence, and at working on the legal and legislative aspects in this area. He called on all governmental and civil society organisations to unite their efforts to work in combating violence against women, in order to achieve the strategic vision of supporting women.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
