Samih Saqr, director of the Coastal Municipalities Water Utility in Rafah, Eng. Ali Abu Naja, deputy director of the electricity company in Rafah, Dr. Ahmed Al-Soufi, member of the municipal council, Eng. Osama Abu Nqeira, director of the health and sanitation department, and Eng. Saleh Jarghoun, director of the urban planning department, attended by dozens of citizens at the premises of the Al-Mawasi neighbourhood committee in Rafah.<br \/>\nIn his address, the mayor of Rafah, Abu Radwan, presented the municipality's main recent achievements in the Al-Mawasi area, focusing on the construction of Al-Rashid Street and the preparation of the detailed plan for the Al-Mawasi area, and stressing the importance of community participation, which was evident in the preparation of the neighbourhood's detailed plan with the participation of citizens and the neighbourhood committee.<br \/>\nThe floor was then opened to citizens, who presented their observations on the detailed plan and the main street, as well as a number of problems relating to water and electricity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Simplified Arabic;\">There was positive engagement between citizens and decision-makers at the session, with an exchange of views and proposals that ensure a response to the reasonable demands of the neighbourhood's residents. The municipality promised to provide facilities to citizens in settling their problems relating to licences, in cooperation with the neighbourhood committee, and Abu Radwan reassured citizens that the municipal park on the seafront would remain for the public benefit of all the residents of Rafah governorate, expressing the municipality's readiness to prepare a sports ground serving the area's residents on any plot of land the committee designates for that purpose. The water utility stated that it is in the process of connecting the water network to the reservoir in order to improve the water service to the neighbourhood.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Simplified Arabic;\">Raed Saada, coordinator of the social accountability project and chair of the session, expressed his satisfaction with the outcomes reached and with the positive engagement between citizens and decision-makers, noting that meetings of this kind help strengthen the relationship between the municipality and the citizen and improve the quality of the services provided to citizens.
