On Wednesday the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, in partnership with Terre des hommes Switzerland (TDH), concluded the workshops on the role of the informal judiciary in strengthening access to the best justice for juveniles, within the juvenile justice project in the Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n
The meeting was attended by Saif Abu Ramadan, president of the Palestine Mukhtars Association, Mahmoud Abu Daqqa, probation officer in Khan Younis, and a number of mukhtars, reconciliation figures and civil society activists.<\/p>\n
Saif Abu Ramadan praised the continuing efforts of the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution on this important and sensitive subject in our conservative Palestinian society, and said that the mukhtars always observe complete confidentiality in handling such cases, particularly on the question of harassment of children, in keeping with the customs and traditions our society holds, which protect the individual from going astray and allow them to be reintegrated into society.<\/p>\n
For his part, Mahmoud Abu Daqqa, probation officer in Khan Younis, shed light on the intensive training of probation officers. He stressed that a probation officer works hard to uncover the cause that brought the child to their present state and to follow the juvenile child's behaviour in their natural environment at home and at school, and that the child's psychological, social and economic needs are considered. He said these efforts are made to ensure the child feels that they are still part of society and not forgotten on its margins, and that they become an accepted member of their community.<\/p>\n
In closing, the reconciliation figures thanked the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution for the effective workshops on the question of juvenile justice in the Gaza Strip, and expressed their full readiness to intervene at any time in such cases, saying that the child is the responsibility of society as a whole, being the hope of tomorrow for a better future for themselves and for their community.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
