Today, Thursday, at the Adam Hotel, the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution held a workshop for the project \"Promoting and improving women's rights in HLP issues\", which is carrying out a dialogue meeting entitled \"The right to property and inheritance for women: hard to obtain, easy to give up and be deprived of\".<\/p>\n
It is worth noting that this meeting was attended by the representative of the sharia judiciary, His Eminence Hassan Al-Jojo, the director of the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, Iyad Abu Hjair, the representative of the Ministry of Endowments, Nimr Abu Ouf, the director of the legal unit at the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, Younis Al-Tahrawi, the secretary of the Bar Association, Ziad Al-Najjar, and a number of legal advisers.<\/p>\n
For his part, Abdel Moneim Al-Tahrawi, projects coordinator at the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, confirmed that this workshop comes within a series the Centre carries out with funding from the European Union with decision-makers, in order to discuss a set of issues and problems women suffer from regarding inheritance, housing and property. It was preceded by several workshops that produced recommendations supporting women's rights, the most important of them being the decision issued by the Supreme Sharia Judicial Council providing that contracts to which one of the parties is a minor may not be certified or concluded except after obtaining written permission and approval from His Eminence the representative of the sharia judiciary, Hassan Al-Jojo, according to the procedures duly followed. It is worth noting that this came as a result of a communication from the head of the Supreme Judicial Council, Hassan Al-Jojo, to counsellor Salama Bseiso, deputy head of the Bar Association, calling on him to issue this decision.<\/p>\n

The secretary of the Bar Association, Ziad Al-Najjar, confirmed that there is an increase in women's awareness of their rights and in claiming them, which has led to their economic empowerment, and that any failure by a lawyer regarding any of their rights will be punished and will result in his being barred from practising his profession.<\/p>\n

In conclusion, some of the advisers explained that there is an insufficient number of judges to look into all the cases, and that judges should be assigned each to a particular field. They noted the absence from the Palestinian judiciary of rulings criminalising the perpetrator in such cases, which leads to their continuation and aggravation.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
