On Wednesday the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, in partnership with Terre des hommes Switzerland (TDH), held a workshop at the La Terrazza restaurant entitled \"The role of the informal judiciary in strengthening access to the best justice for juveniles\", attended by Mr. Anwar Azzam, lawyer at the legal unit of the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, Mr. Saif Al-Din Abu Ramadan, president of the Palestine Mukhtars Association, and Mr. Ismail Tanira, director of the social defence department.<\/p>\n

Mr. Ismail Tanira opened the workshop with the prophetic saying \" Every one of you is a shepherd, and every one of you is responsible for his flock<\/strong> \", and addressed the importance of the family and society in protecting the child first of all, then of officials and the role of the judiciary.<\/p>\n

Tanira stressed the importance of training probation officers who work with juvenile children, given their major role in treating the delinquent child psychologically, rehabilitating them, reintegrating them into society and giving them life skills they will benefit from throughout their lives.<\/p>\n

Mr. Anwar Azzam explained that the judiciary should moderate the sentences issued against juvenile children in order to achieve the best and soundest justice for them, and that the juvenile child is not the responsibility of any single body but of society as a whole.<\/p>\n

In the same vein, Mr. Saif Abu Ramadan stressed that such cases must be handled in complete confidence, with due regard for society's customs and traditions and for safeguarding the reputation of the delinquent child, so as to ensure they can be reintegrated into society in full freedom.<\/p>\n

In conclusion, the mukhtars, men and women, who attended praised the continuing efforts of the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution on the question of juvenile children, and stressed the importance of socialisation, which is nothing other than training and bringing up individuals for their future roles, so that they become effective members of society and are kept far from the problems and cases that do not befit their age or their lives.\"1418923628\"<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
