The Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution launched its strategic plan for 2014-2016 at the new Roots Hotel, bringing together many supporting partners and new funders in the Gaza Strip. Dr. Nahed Eid, chair of the board, opened the launch ceremony, explaining that this is the fourth plan for his Centre since it began its work in 1998, and that the Centre has been able to extend to six branches in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n
Dr. Eid explained that the Centre has been through hard times in recent years, particularly the wars on the Gaza Strip and the events of the Palestinian division and their consequences, which obliged the Centre to change its strategy. He stressed that despite all of this the Centre still works to provide the best services it can in the service of Palestinian society as a whole.<\/p>\n
He praised the role of the donor organisations and partners for their support of the Centre's steps, noting that this is the first time the Centre has presented its plan to its partners in order to involve them in its plans and inform them of its future programmes, in a way that ensures joint and constructive work for the common good.<\/p>\n
For his part, Eng. Iyad Abu Hjair, director of the Gaza branch, explained that the Centre is distinguished by its wide geographical spread and its ability to reach the local community in partnership with more than 360 grassroots organisations and with a large number of international organisations, adding: \"The Centre has signed many memoranda of understanding with government bodies in the service of Palestinian society, particularly on women's issues concerning the family meeting point, and memoranda of understanding with the sharia and regular courts and with the Ministry of Social Affairs at the Al-Rabee reform facility.\"<\/p>\n
Mr. Abu Hjair also gave a brief presentation on the 2014-2016 strategic plan, noting that the plan differs in essence from previous plans, since it includes a dedicated programme on democracy, human rights and good governance, a programme for supporting and empowering women, and a programme on children's rights and protection.<\/p>\n
For their part, many supporting partners and funders took part in the discussion, the main points being strengthening the role of young people in decision-making and strengthening the Centre's media work. The participants valued the Palestinian Center's role in the service of Palestinian society and wished it further progress and achievement.
