\n\"Violence is not a means of dialogue\": a phrase written by a sixteen-year-old pupil from Abdel Fattah Hamouda School on the picture he drew after awareness sessions on alternatives to violence and on conflict resolution were held within the events of the Civil Peace project.
\nThe project coordinator, Hanan Al-Dalu, said the aim of these sessions is to increase pupils' awareness of the concepts of civil peace and to build a culture of dialogue, acceptance of others and resolving disputes without resorting to violence, inside and outside school.
\nAl-Dalu explained that the project reached 60 secondary schools spread across the country's governorates in both the West Bank and the Strip, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, adding: \"The educators were keen to encourage pupils to think positively and to turn negative energy into positive energy, in order to reduce the phenomenon of violence prevalent in Palestinian society as a result of the difficult political, social and economic conditions.\"
\nOn the importance of the sessions, the educator Ahmed Al-Afifi spoke about the strong response among pupils during the awareness sessions and their wish to put forward initiatives calling for tolerance and civil peace, praising the role of school managements in facilitating the sessions and helping pupils to carry out their initiatives within the school walls as a call to their peers to reject violence within society.
