The educational specialist Nevin Al-Farahta from the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution considers that developing a child's reading skill before they start school, even by reading simple sentences, develops their skill in thinking and positive criticism and benefits them once they start school. She said: \"This will keep them from confining themselves to the framework of school books; instead they will read in other fields, and the family can encourage the child to join public libraries and centres that accustom the child to reading.\" She explained that parents reading their children a story before bed will make them love reading, and that children seeing their parents reading will prompt them to imitate them, saying: \"Let them begin by choosing short, colourful stories for children that they read together, then move gradually on to books, and it is best if the father sets aside a reading time in which the whole family gathers.\" She pointed out that accustoming a child to reading from an early age develops a love of reading in them, so the family should be keen to fill their child's room with books, which will make them see the book as a friend and a source of pleasure and adventure. Al-Farahta explained that parents should talk to their children about the pictures and words in the various stories and books: \"This strengthens the child's stock of language, and they can compare the events in stories and the information in books with the events they go through with their children every day, so that the child is able to link imagination and reality.\" She stressed the need for the family to begin speaking to their child even before the child begins to talk, in order to develop their language skills, by speaking to the child in short, simple sentences about the various activities they take part in during the day.
