The Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, in cooperation with Rafah Municipality, concluded a specialised training course on social accountability, held over four days, comprising 20 training hours.
\nThe training reached around 30 participants from the neighbourhood committees, members of the municipal council and some of the municipality's staff in Rafah governorate.
\nRaed Saada, coordinator of the social accountability in local government project, said the training aims to develop the capacities of municipal council members and municipality staff on the subject of social accountability, its tools and its importance in improving the level of services provided, by involving them in determining their priorities regarding the essential services provided to them and by holding them to account over their commitment to the values of integrity and the principles of transparency in managing the delivery of services.
\nThe training, delivered by Abu Saada, addressed several themes, the main ones being the concept of social accountability and its tools, the rights and duties of both the citizen and the municipality, and in particular the right of access to information, reporting corrupt practices or poor management in the delivery of services, and involving citizens in determining priorities, building annual plans and shaping the municipalities' general policies.
\nIt is worth noting that this training comes within the events of the social accountability in local government project, carried out by the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution in partnership with the German Agency for International Cooperation, under the Local Governance and Civil Society Development Programme.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
