\nToday the legal information, counselling and aid project at the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution held a round table meeting entitled \"The right to property, housing and land\", to discuss some of the difficulties relating to land, in cooperation with the Norwegian Refugee Council.
\nThe meeting included an explanation of the types of land in the Gaza Strip in terms of private, government and waqf ownership, disputes, the ways of buying, selling and inheriting, women's rights in inheritance and the types of inheritance.
\nFor his part, the lawyer of the legal information, counselling and aid project at the Centre, Ahmed Hassouna, explained that the problems of women's ownership lie in knowing the procedures to be followed to prove ownership or to remove encroachment, and the procedures required to proceed with actions relating to real estate disputes, such as specific performance, partition of joint property and claiming inheritance shares.
\nFatima Ashour, a member of the Bar Association, stressed that the delay in determining some land cases is due first and foremost to the shortage of judges in the Gaza Strip in general.<\/p>\n
For his part, the psychologist, social specialist and lecturer at the Islamic University, Dr. Jamil Al-Tahrawi, reviewed some of the reasons why women refrain from claiming their rights, among them women's lack of awareness of their rights, fear of punishment and of estrangement between relatives, in addition to the entrenched negative view of customs and traditions and the excessive sensitivity among women and their fear of claiming their rights.
\nThe meeting, attended by 40 participants from among lawyers, law enforcement officers and reconciliation figures, in addition to women interested in the subject, included discussions and interventions, particularly on the subject of the transfer of ownership and women's right to inheritance, which is often ignored or overlooked in Arab societies.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
