Yes to life, no to killing<\/p>\n
The repeated killings of women and girls in our Palestinian society have become a worrying phenomenon on the Palestinian street, which suffers daily from the occupation's violence and its continued repression. Palestinian women bear this burden in war and in peace. Discrimination against women and the erosion of their legal and legislative protection add further burdens, so that they suffer a double oppression in the street, at work and in the family, and therefore in society, becoming a victim who is not only subjected to violence but is killed.
\nLife is a gift God has bestowed on us, and no one has the right to take it from us: \"And do not kill the soul which God has forbidden, except by right.\" The Almighty has spoken the truth.
\nFor all of the above, the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution has taken the initiative of calling on many official and unofficial organisations to unite their efforts to end this phenomenon, by launching the campaign against the killing of women under the slogan \"Yes to life, no to killing\"
\nA number of organisations took part in the campaign, among them:
\nMinistry of Women's Affairs, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Justice
\nHigh Council of Sharia Judiciary, High Judicial Council, Independent Commission for Citizens' Rights
\nGeneral Union of Palestinian Women, Family Defence Society, Palestinian Working Woman Society for Development
\nNajdeh Association for Social Protection, Centre for Women's Studies, ACTIONAID
\nTo achieve this aim, ending the phenomenon of killing women, the campaign will include the following:
\n1. Working on comprehensive community awareness about the right to life and the effects of such killings on the family and on society as a whole, by every available means: media, workshops, training and education, posters, meetings and so on.
\n2. Pressing the Palestinian legislator to develop legislation protecting women from violence and abolishing all forms of discrimination against them, and to enact a deterrent and firm penal code that stops this phenomenon.
\n3. Developing social protection systems and programmes for women subjected to violence.
\n4. Working and pressing to activate the judiciary in protecting women, foremost the sharia courts and the maintenance fund and so on.
\n5. Developing mechanisms for implementing and following up the national strategy to combat violence against women.
\n6. Widening the campaign's network and networking with similar campaigns locally, in the Arab world and internationally.
