\nAllowing the associations concerned with prisoners to work inside the Strip and the West Bank, prohibiting political detention as a shameful page in the Palestinian cause, and working to strengthen the values of tolerance in Palestinian society: these were the outcome of the workshop held on Thursday by the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution entitled \"The effect of the division on released prisoners inside Israeli jails\".
\nThe meeting was attended by Iyad Abu Hjair, director of the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, Rafiq Hamdouna, director of the Hussam Association for Prisoners, Ayman Al-Shawa, representing the group Palestine Our Future, and Umm Nour Qaddas, representing the families of released prisoners, in addition to a group of released prisoners and families of prisoners in Israeli jails.<\/p>\n

For his part, Mr. Abu Hjair stressed that the Centre always seeks to strengthen civil peace and achieve community reconciliation, saying: \"Since the beginning of the division in July 2007, the Palestinian Center has carried out many events supporting civil peace and has brought the two sides of the conflict together in workshops and conferences calling for national reconciliation, and a proposal to end the division was prepared and presented to both sides.\"
\nIn his address, Rafiq Hamdouna said that prisoners have a major role in mending the rift on the Palestinian scene, and called for opening the associations concerned with the prisoners' cause, since it is a national cause and all groups of the Palestinian people must join together to lift the siege on them.<\/p>\n

On the conditions of prisoners inside Israeli jails, Mr. Ayman Al-Shawa said that Israeli policy played a prominent exploitative role in entrenching the division inside its jails, explaining: \"The Israeli forces exploited the division between the parties outside the prisons and isolated prisoners inside them, each according to his faction.\"<\/p>\n

In an address on behalf of prisoners' families, the mother of the prisoner Nour Qaddas deplored the closure of the associations concerned with the prisoners' cause and the exploitation of this cause for personal ends. She also condemned the practices of both governments in restricting the activists concerned with prisoners instead of supporting them and standing beside them.
