\nReleased prisoners in Gaza called on the Palestinian factions, foremost Fatah and Hamas, to end the division seriously and effectively, to put an end to the disputes between the conflicting Palestinian parties, and to be keen to form a complete national body that works to bring the views of the Palestinian people closer together and to achieve national reconciliation as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n
These calls came from the prisoners during the dialogue meeting entitled \"The role of prisoners in advancing reconciliation\", held by the Coalition of Civil Forces at the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution with the participation of a number of released prisoners, attended by the deputy director general of the Conflict Resolution Center, Iyad Abu Hjair, and the field coordinator of the Coalition of Civil Forces, Fayez Zaqout, at the Centre's premises in Gaza City.<\/p>\n
For his part, Abu Hjair reviewed the role the Centre has played since the beginning of the division in 2007 and spoke about the main events and activities the Centre has carried out to bring the two sides' views closer together, particularly issuing the national reconciliation document, which addressed the most contentious subjects and was signed by 300,000 Palestinian citizens from the West Bank and the Gaza Strip in order to restore cohesion between the two parts of the homeland.<\/p>\n
For his part, the released prisoner Iyad Abu Al-Khaizaran pointed out that the enemy exploited the state of division and increased its aggressive policy against the Palestinian people, and that we must therefore work on uniting the ranks, accepting others, keeping away from a policy of revenge, holding elections, granting more freedom of expression and rejecting the political detention of any citizen, whether in the Gaza Strip or the West Bank.<\/p>\n
The released prisoner Kifah Aridah called for holding many workshops and meetings and forming a unified body that begins carrying out joint events to ease the hostility between the two sides of the division and to build trust between all governmental and non-governmental organisations of civil society, in order to ensure that national reconciliation is achieved.<\/p>\n
The released prisoner Mazen Faqha called for a halt to political arrests in the prisons of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip on the one hand, and for attention to the continuing assaults on prisoners inside the occupation's jails and the protection of their legitimate rights under international law.<\/p>\n
The released prisoner Hilal Jaradat addressed his remarks to intellectuals and academics, calling on them to make greater efforts to end the state of division, proposing the formation of a broad body bringing together all prisoners of every orientation alongside organisations and bodies from the local community, to help end the division.<\/p>\n
The released prisoner Yasser Saleh appealed to all the leaders of the released prisoners' movement to agree on the wording of a memorandum of understanding to be delivered to the leadership of Fatah and Hamas, on condition that there are sincere intentions and a suitable environment for ending the division.<\/p>\n
The released prisoner Khairi Al-Sisi said that prisoners inside the jails have a brotherly and sincere relationship and are united by the homeland's interest, the proof of which is the national accord document concluded inside the prisons, which he appealed to both sides to apply.<\/p>\n
The released prisoner Ata Falna appealed to the leaders of the released prisoners' movement to strengthen a culture of dialogue and to use their leading standing to press towards ending the division, and thanked the Centre for the role it plays in working to end it.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
