\nThe Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, within the project for providing legal aid to women in need and in partnership with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), held two educational meetings in the North governorate on the forms of acquiring real estate ownership and women's right to ownership and housing.<\/p>\n
The first workshop, held at the office of the Palestinian Democratic Union in the Jabalia area last Thursday under the title \"Forms of acquiring real estate ownership\", was attended by 30 male and female participants and was delivered by the project's lawyer, Ahmed Hassouna.<\/p>\n
During the meeting Hassouna addressed a range of terms relating to acquiring real estate ownership and the main real estate disputes and the mechanisms of amicable solutions through mediation and arbitration, pointing to the law's role where amicable solutions fail. He reviewed a range of examples that lawyers face daily with citizens in real estate ownership cases and the ways of resorting to the courts where no solution is found between the disputing parties.<\/p>\n
In a related context, the project for providing legal aid to women in need held an educational meeting on women's rights to property and housing at the premises of the Al-Ataa Association in the Beit Hanoun area in the north of the Gaza Strip, with the participation of 20 women from the area.<\/p>\n
At the start of the meeting, the project's lawyer Tahani Aziz spoke about the importance of the project for providing legal aid to women in need, its main objectives and activities during the previous period and the ways of reaching the public in order to provide awareness and legal counselling on property and housing matters. She set out the ways of acquiring ownership, namely sale, bequest, gift and exchange between families and citizens within the local community.<\/p>\n
For her part, the project's lawyer Nazriya Yassin explained women's rights in inheritance, including definitions of inheritance and the estate, the main reasons behind depriving women of inheritance according to custom and tradition, and how to protect women so as to give them their civil and lawful rights. She set out the main ways that must be achieved to ensure women receive their inheritance rights and to press for increasing education and awareness among all members of Palestinian society about the nature of these rights.<\/p>\n
The participants in the two meetings raised a range of questions about real estate ownership matters and the right to ownership and housing for women in need, and the lawyers answered all the questions and offered a range of legal advice and guidance to the participants.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
