\nLawyers, reconciliation figures and those charged with law enforcement called for legal measures to be taken against the custodial parent who refuses to carry out the judgments relating to visitation, for the need to facilitate visitation by the police stations, particularly on weekly holidays such as Friday, in addition to working to increase the number of visitation hours beyond two hours so as to allow the other party more ease in seeing their children.<\/p>\n
These calls came during the workshop held by the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution with the participation of representatives of the police stations, the enforcement departments at the sharia courts, reconciliation figures and the coordinators of the Centre's family meeting points, in the training hall at the Centre's main premises in Gaza City.<\/p>\n
At the start of the workshop, the director of the legal department at the Centre, Younis Al-Tahrawi, opened by stressing the Centre's concern with the question of family visitation since 2002 and how it took the initiative of establishing the family meeting points in coordination with the High Council of Sharia Judiciary in order to end the crises arising from visitation at police stations. He added: \"The family meeting points of the Conflict Resolution Center are spread across all our branches in the Gaza and West Bank governorates, and we coordinate with all the legal, social and psychological bodies to help ensure a suitable environment for visitation and to increase family cohesion between parents and their children.\"<\/p>\n
For his part, the enforcement officer at the Gaza Court of First Instance, Rami Salouha, explained the ways in which sharia cases are received and the great attention given to cases of custody, hosting and visitation by the enforcement departments. He stressed that the enforcement departments in the Gaza governorates are keen to refer many visitation cases to the Conflict Resolution Center, given the Centre's effort to ease the burden on the police stations and to provide a safe and calm atmosphere for children away from those charged with law enforcement, which may affect children's state of mind negatively.<\/p>\n
Salouha noted that the enforcement departments sometimes face a set of obstacles, among them the child's absence and failure to attend the weekly or monthly session, or the absence of clear cooperation from the custodial parent in sending their children for visitation with the other party. He explained that this negative behaviour by some citizens drives those charged with law enforcement to use compulsory force to carry out the judgments issued by the sharia courts on visitation cases.<\/p>\n
For his part, the sharia lawyer Nasr Khader spoke about the text of law 22 relating to the right to visitation, the facilitation of visitation by the judges and their not being obstructive, the requirement that visitation take place in safe locations, and increasing the number of hours the other party spends with their child during visitation. He pointed to a set of criteria and characteristics that must be met by the persons entitled to hosting and visitation in cases of divorce or the death of one of the spouses.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
