She began to weep like the rain in January.

Her suffering began about 21 years ago, that is four days after her marriage. Her husband was "of her own flesh and blood", as they say, her cousin, and she was the only, cherished daughter in her family. Suddenly she stopped speaking as though she were in another world, and she remembered and remembered that night, and what happened? Silence fell again as though it were drawing the scene she was about to tell us. Then she put her hands on the chair and planted her feet and cried out: this is how he would place me and tie me to the chair from eight in the evening until seven in the morning, burning my body with the stubs of cigarettes he savoured with indescribable pleasure, putting them out on my body. This went on all through that night, whose moment is carved in my memory for ever.

I had nothing but to implore God Almighty with great supplication that someone from my family or his would come, but there was no use in prayer or entreaty that night, to know what wrong I had done for him to do all this to me. He began to sprinkle my body with cold water and laugh and say: this is honey, taste it. I was that bride who never knew the taste of happiness. He left me a few months after the marriage and travelled abroad for work, and I was pregnant with my first child at the time, but the pregnancy did not last long and I lost the baby then.

He would return home once a year and a pregnancy would happen during it, and my father would give me my allowance and meet my needs and my children's needs until my husband returned from abroad. Would that he had not returned and had remained the absent present one, for he was no example of a tender father before his children. He returned and my tragedy returned with him, the hardest of it when he beat my sick son and threw him out of the house to spend a bitter winter night in the falling snow, so that my son "Gh" spent the whole night sleeping in front of the door of the house while we were tied to the wardrobe like animals. The disputes between us grew until I obtained a divorce in April, which I consider the beginning of forgetting, though my suffering did not end and continued after the divorce, when he began to claim my children to take them to him. But hope remained in my life, and you at the Conflict Resolution Center were the ones who gave me joy and hope by speaking and by listening to what I wanted to say, and drew from the threads of sorrow coloured on my face threads of hope and life once more, after I brought my case to the Centre and you helped me keep my children with me and protect them from the greed of that wolf who devours his own young if he is enraged or hungry.

During the meeting, silence filled the room for more than five minutes, between weeping in silence and smiling with hope and a new life. The citizen "S" joined a programme the Centre provided to teach sewing, with the aim of providing protection and economic security and an income for her and her children. Through her determination and her passion for work, she became one of the best at sewing and designing clothes and selling them within a short period after the training. All that she had been through was only a reel of lessons that life teaches us and trials from God and an ordeal requiring patience and the seeking of reward from Him, and she must thank God Almighty for all she has been through. Her hope in life will not stop, and she has devoted herself to educating her children at university so that they may be a support and a help to her in her old age and infirmity in the future.

At the end of the conversation she said to us: "I will teach them how to make sour lemons into a delicious juice that heals illnesses and protects them from the bitterness and the sweetness of the days."

[3

post-2372","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-blog
["GET
