\nA number of specialists and legal experts called for moving quickly to provide support and assistance to the citizens living near the buffer zones on the border between the Gaza Strip and the occupied territories, and called on the owners of land on the border to work on renewing the legal and proper registration of their title to that land.<\/p>\n
These calls came during the first round table meeting entitled \"Owners in the buffer zones and the mechanisms for helping them legally\", held by the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution within the project for providing legal aid to vulnerable women, at the premises of the Arab Palestinian Front in Gaza City, attended by a group of lawyers, reconciliation figures and representatives of international and human rights organisations.<\/p>\n
At the start of the meeting, the head of the legal unit at the Conflict Resolution Center, Younis Al-Tahrawi, explained that the living and humanitarian situation of the residents in the buffer zones needs to be improved and developed so that they can live in dignity like other people. He pointed out that the coming period should see genuine and tangible mechanisms introduced to support the owners in the buffer zones on the border.<\/p>\n
For his part, the lawyer at the Conflict Resolution Center, Ahmed Hassouna, called on the citizens living near the buffer zones to move quickly to establish their title to the land legally and correctly by registering and transferring ownership at the land department from the names of deceased grandparents to the names of the heirs as the new owners. He reviewed the main special facilities that should be given to owners in the buffer zones, among them exempting them from registration fees or paying nominal fees when registering land.<\/p>\n
On raising Israel's violations with the international community, the representative of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Gaza Strip, Saber Al-Nairab, stressed the need to respect human rights and not to infringe them under any circumstances. He added: \"For our part we monitor the assaults against Palestinian citizens and raise them with the Israeli side to provide justifications, after which we submit official reports professionally on those breaches to the competent international bodies.\"<\/p>\n
For his part, the coordinator of the popular campaign against the separation wall, Mahmoud Al-Zaq, spoke about the role of their national campaign's activities and events in confronting the Israeli occupation and in rooting the concepts of steadfastness and remaining on the land. He valued the continuing efforts of foreign solidarity activists and popular campaigns in supporting the cause of the residents of the buffer zones among the owners of homes and farmland.<\/p>\n
For his part, one of the founders of the popular campaign against the separation wall, Saber Al-Zaanin, set out the main challenges facing their campaign in exposing the occupation's unethical practices in stealing Palestinian land. He stressed that their campaign has put forward a number of documented pieces of information about the buffer zone, using official maps, as well as their continuing appeals to the competent bodies to support citizens in those areas.<\/p>\n
On the official Palestinian role internationally, the human rights activist and lawyer Salah Abdel Ati called for activating the diplomatic role in all international forums and for focusing on the great national cause in order to help the Palestinian people by all peaceful means of struggle. He pointed to the need for the media to play a role and to bear its responsibilities in supporting and shedding light on the issues of Palestinian society and presenting them locally and internationally.<\/p>\n
For his part, the representative of the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, Fadel Al-Muzaini, praised the role played by human rights organisations and the popular campaigns against the separation wall in monitoring and documenting Israeli violations against citizens and their property. He pointed out that their centre has held a number of training courses for owners in the buffer areas to train them in the mechanisms of monitoring violations and the systematic seizure of their land by the occupation.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
