Intellectuals, analysts and representatives of the political forces and civil society organisations in Nablus governorate in the West Bank called for work to achieve national reconciliation, for support for the dialogue efforts in the Egyptian capital Cairo, and for the affirmation of the freedoms of opinion and expression in the Palestinian territories.<\/p>\n
These calls came during the national reconciliation conference held yesterday by the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution in Nablus governorate, entitled \"The Palestinian National Reconciliation Conference\", within the Together for National Reconciliation project, to discuss the proposed national reconciliation document submitted by the Conflict Resolution Center to end the Palestinian political division.<\/p>\n
The conference was opened by the director of the Conflict Resolution Center's Nablus branch, Ahmed Abu Ayyash, who stressed that the Centre has held more than 20 round-table sessions in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip with the participation of the round-table team, which includes a number of journalists, police officers, women's and party leaders and lawyers. He praised the serious intentions at every local level to make Palestinian reconciliation succeed and the drive to join community efforts to deepen the work of dialogue and internal understanding.<\/p>\n
The conference's chair and the coordinator of the Together for National Reconciliation project in Nablus, Hanadi Al-Qaddoumi, said that holding the conference comes within the Conflict Resolution Center's approach of supporting the efforts of those in dialogue in Cairo to move forward on the path of completing reconciliation and achieving Palestinian unity. She stressed that the Together for Reconciliation project has engaged with every group capable of making change and influencing this file, in order to ensure the social fabric is strengthened to face external challenges.<\/p>\n
For his part, the representative of Nablus governorate, Tayseer Nasrallah, addressed the importance of implementing the clauses of Palestinian reconciliation and the need for the political leaderships to engage with the documents and papers that support national dialogue, among them the Nablus Call document and the Conflict Resolution Center's document for ending the division. He called on all Palestinians to intensify advocacy and pressure campaigns to implement reconciliation on the ground in the coming period.<\/p>\n
In an address by the member of the Legislative Council, Dr. Hassan Khreisheh, he stressed the importance of the presence of all Palestinian forces within the Palestine Liberation Organisation, as it is the legitimate representative of the Palestinian people at home and in the diaspora. He added: \"I believe that the programme of the National Conciliation Document drawn up by the prisoners is the clearest political programme to be adopted as a political programme for the Palestine Liberation Organisation in the coming period.\"<\/p>\n
In an address on behalf of the released prisoners, the former prisoner Mustafa Badarneh valued the important role of the prisoners inside the occupation's jails, as well as of released prisoners, in working to move and complete the efforts of reconciliation, and the importance of realising the National Conciliation Document for its role in addressing the thorny issues between the Fatah and Hamas movements. He expressed his hope that the Conciliation Document and all the national documents would contribute to speeding up the formation of a national government, the reform of the Liberation Organisation and the formation of a unified resistance front for the Palestinian people.<\/p>\n
On the experience of the round tables, the representative of the round tables and lawyer at the Independent Commission for Human Rights in the West Bank, Yazan Sawafta, said that carrying out the round-table discussion programme and applying its recommendations requires joined efforts and the participation of all political and institutional affiliations in order to form the basic structure of the Palestinian social fabric. He pointed to the need to follow up the political statements of the Palestinian leaderships and to increase discussion circles with officials and decision-makers in the country's governorates to ensure the division is ended seriously and finally.<\/p>\n
It is worth noting that the Conflict Resolution Center, through the Together for National Reconciliation project, founded the coalition of civil forces to end the division and has carried out a number of workshops and events calling for community reconciliation to be strengthened in the governorates of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
