Released prisoners called for achieving Palestinian national reconciliation as soon as possible in order to guarantee an end to the division, to seek the enforcement of the law in the Palestinian territories, and to rebuild the Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n
The released prisoners' recommendations came during a workshop organised by the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution entitled \"Discussing the proposed national reconciliation document\" at the Grand Palace restaurant, with the participation of representatives of the factions and parties and of civil society organisations and a number of academics and journalists in Gaza City.<\/p>\n
At the start of the workshop, the projects director at the Conflict Resolution Center, Abdel Moneim Al-Tahrawi, stressed that the Centre presents its document as a supporting paper to move the reconciliation file and to work on mobilising popular pressure to follow it up. He noted that the proposed Palestinian reconciliation document issued by the Centre is the product of dozens of dialogue sessions held with officials and organisations to make national reconciliation succeed, and that this paper comes as a continuation of the earlier reconciliation initiatives and papers.<\/p>\n
In an address on behalf of the released prisoners, the former prisoner Abdel Hadi Ghneim called for greater pressure and influence on the factions in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip to move the reconciliation file and to engage with the National Conciliation Document drafted by the prisoners in Hadarim prison with the participation of all the factions and parties, as a basis to work from. He added: \"There are dangers and challenges facing us as a Palestinian people, and we must move and bear our responsibilities towards the homeland and the cause.\"<\/p>\n
For his part, the Fatah movement leader Ibrahim Abu Al-Naja said the Palestine Liberation Organisation is a broad front framework and is not the preserve of two factions but represents every shade of the Palestinian people, since all the Palestinian factions have struggled and sacrificed for the homeland. He explained that the coming government's point of reference will be the Legislative Council and that the people will monitor the Legislative Council's performance in the coming period.<\/p>\n
For his part, Dr. Samir Abu Mudallala, professor of economics at Al-Azhar University, explained that ending the division requires genuine and sincere intentions from both the Fatah and Hamas movements and that the Palestinian factions must contribute by putting forward final solutions to the current crisis. He called for work on applying the proportional representation system to all coming Palestinian elections instead of the mixed system based on proportional representation and districts.<\/p>\n
On the role of the security services, Major Ayman Al-Batniji called for work on the independence of the security services in the Palestinian territories in the coming stage in order to guarantee the achievement of the principles of the rule of law and justice in the local community. He explained that Palestinian society needs more security and stability and an end to every manifestation of lawlessness.<\/p>\n
For his part, Dr. Marouf Nasser, a university academic, said the paper prepared by the Conflict Resolution Center needs amendments to bring it into line with the Palestinian constitution, and that the oversight role over the institutions of the National Authority must be activated. He stressed that there is a contradiction between the elections of the National Council and the presidential elections, which produce two presidents for the Palestinian people, and that this legal contradiction must be addressed.<\/p>\n
It is noted that the Conflict Resolution Center, through the Together for National Reconciliation project, founded the coalition of civil forces to end the division and has carried out a number of workshops and events calling for community reconciliation to be strengthened in the Palestinian territories.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
