Gaza: the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution is carrying out a series of workshops at Al-Aqsa University. The first workshop addressed the subject of tolerance and its effect in strengthening civil peace, and the guest of this meeting was Professor Abdel Salam Al-Louh, lecturer at the Islamic University's faculty of the fundamentals of religion. These workshops come within the events of the project \"Women for civil peace\", which is carrying out a series of public meetings and workshops at many Palestinian universities and at associations and community organisations. This workshop was attended by around 30 female university students from all disciplines and student frameworks. The workshop was run by Amna Hamid, a member of the student leadership team, who began by welcoming the guests and then gave an overview of the events of the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, which have focused on the subject of national reconciliation since the division in 2007 and up to the present stage, which focuses on the role of women in leadership, whether in civil or political work. Mr. Abdel Salam Al-Louh began his talk on the concept of civil peace and the foundations of its existence in any society, particularly Islamic society. Mr. Al-Louh stressed that there are peaceful means that make it unnecessary to resort to others: there are legal means that give every rights-holder his right, as an alternative to resorting to violence or fighting. Mr. Al-Louh emphasised spreading the value of tolerance and its profound effect in removing the psychological harm arising from the state of division in our Palestinian society. Mr. Al-Louh also stressed the need to focus on the role of the intellectual and the university lecturer in making every effort to spread the noble Islamic values that urge tolerance and forgiveness and the rejection of every factor of division and disagreement, and that call for uniting the ranks and speaking with one voice. Mr. Al-Louh stressed the importance of women, whether as mother, wife or daughter, playing the role entrusted to them in calling for tolerance and instilling the values of love, pardon and forgiveness so that they become essential pillars in building community peace, and of the female university student conveying positive ideas to her fellow students, her family and her community, so that a culture of pardon, forgiveness and tolerance becomes the prevailing culture in our societies.
