Gaza: the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution carried out a workshop at the Al-Ataa Association for Mother and Child, entitled \"The role of civil organisations in strengthening the concepts of community peace\". This workshop comes within the events of the project \"Women for civil peace\", which is carrying out a series of public meetings and workshops at many Palestinian universities and at associations and community organisations. The workshop was run by Maysa Fatiha, member of the student leadership team the Centre trained in the subjects of civil peace, advocacy, mobilisation and managing workshops. This team forms the base for spreading the concepts of civil peace and the culture of tolerance and accepting the other. This workshop was attended by around 30 women and female university students interested in this subject. Maysa Fatiha addressed the concept of civil organisations, their categories and the roles these organisations play, and also addressed the concept of social peace and the elements it relies on in building societies. She also presented a case study on \"the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution\" as one of the active and distinguished civil society organisations in trying to make a breakthrough on the subject of national reconciliation, and the great achievements the Centre has made through numerous marches, carrying out many dialogue sessions and round-table meetings, the signature campaign, and printing around a quarter of a million copies of the national reconciliation document, which the Centre still considers a suitable basis for achieving reconciliation between the Fatah and Hamas movements. This workshop stressed the need for the leaderships of both the Fatah and Hamas movements to bear their responsibility towards ending the state of geographical and political division that affects the reality of community life in Gaza and the West Bank negatively. The workshop also recommended stopping incitement in all its forms and by all its means, and called for strengthening the language of tolerance and dialogue among all the segments of society, not only at the political level, and for raising the level of coordination among civil society organisations. Those present at this workshop also recommended the family's essential role in sound social upbringing built on the principles of democracy, from freedom to express opinion and respect for the other opinion, sparing children from being drawn into narrow partisanship, and strengthening and entrenching the concept of belonging to one homeland.
