The Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution launched the first events of the project for reducing the danger of illiteracy among primary stage pupils in Gaza, funded by the European Union, by beginning the educational sessions for pupils of weak attainment in all the governorates of the Gaza Strip, where a body was formed made up of 20 organisations working as advanced educational centres for children. Abdel Moneim Al-Tahrawi, the project coordinator, noted that this project comes as a joint effort with the European Union through support for the project's various activities, represented in providing remedial lessons for pupils of weak attainment and counselling and psychological support sessions for the pupils. He mentioned that the work in this project aims at providing suitable conditions for these pupils to increase motivation and academic attainment by working in the following three circles: the pupils, the parents and the school, each separately. Al-Tahrawi confirmed that this project will continue for two consecutive years, where work will be done with more than 2,000 pupils in the primary stage, particularly the fifth and sixth grades, of both sexes. For her part, Heba Al-Baz, the project's field coordinator, confirmed that the pupils, the associations and the teachers have actually been chosen and that the project's wheel has begun to turn in all the governorates of the Gaza Strip.
