The Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, with funding from the European Union, this morning begins the first events of the project for reducing the risk of illiteracy by opening a training course to train and qualify the teachers, the field work team numbering 20 male and female teachers among graduates in Arabic, English and mathematics, at 75 training hours over fifteen days, at five training hours a day. This training comes within the events of the project for reducing the risk of illiteracy among children, which aims at providing supportive education to children at risk of dropping out of school in the Gaza governorates, in addition to providing psychological counselling services to children and holding many meetings with families and the local community. Mr. Abdel Moneim Al-Tahrawi, the project coordinator, explained that the aim of this training is to acquaint the teacher with what is new and up to date in the field of teaching and learning methods and curriculum content, which emphasises renewal and continuity in learning and contributes to developing the teacher's capacity for creativity and renewal and to developing his positive attitudes towards his profession, so that he is able to run a course by non-conventional, creative methods far from the traditional approach followed in the classroom, while taking into account the psychological and educational aspects of the target group. The training centred on the skills of the effective teacher, educational objectives, active learning and cooperative learning, in addition to the skills of classroom management and organisation in order to know the curriculum content in the target specialisations.
