The Gaza Scout Commission, in cooperation with the Gaza Knights scout group and under the patronage of the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, organised a workshop entitled \"The scouting movement in the Gaza Strip, between reality and hope\" in the Centre's training hall on Sunday 18\/1\/2010. It was attended by the deputy director of the Palestinian Center, Mr. Iyad Abu Hjair, Mr. Mohammed Al-Husni, the Gaza scout commissioner, Mr. Abdel Hamid Salameh, representing the Palestinian Scouts and Guides Association (the scout committee), Mr. Ahmed Sarhan, leader of the Gaza Knights scout group, and a gathering of members of the Gaza scout commissions and some leaders interested in scouting work. The workshop was run by Mr. Mahmoud Al-Natour, commissioner for environment and community development at the Gaza Scout Commission. The workshop was opened with a fragrant recitation from the noble Qur'an by the senior scout Mohammed Aqeela of the Gaza Knights scout group. Mr. Iyad Abu Hjair spoke in his address about the Centre's role in community development and said it had adopted this initiative in order to develop scouting work in the Gaza Strip. He said: \"I hope this workshop will be the beginning of a new launch for a sound scouting vision built on foundations of understanding and constructive dialogue in order to preserve the form we have always known it in.\" He said: \"We must keep away from politicising the scouting movement and let it keep its educational, humanitarian and moral garb.\" Three working papers were presented as follows: the Palestinian Scouts and Guides Association presented a working paper entitled \"The obstacles to scouting work in the Gaza Strip after the political division and the mechanisms for developing it\"; the Gaza Scout Commission presented a working paper entitled \"The obstacles to scouting work and its needs in the Gaza Strip\"; and the Gaza Knights scout group presented a paper entitled \"We meet as scouts to rise as a nation\".
