\"Do not dream of working. It is enough that we educated you, and may God reward us.\" This is a phrase a university student quoted from her family at one of the workshops held by the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution at the Nama College of Science and Technology, which brought together various disciplines on the twenty-seventh of this month, within the events of the project for supporting and empowering women victims of violence funded by Norwegian People's Aid. The workshop was entitled \"The importance of family dialogue within the Palestinian family\", and several strands were discussed, such as the role of the girl and her participation in family decisions, parents' view of girls' education and respect for their minds, and discrimination between girls and boys. The meeting also included views supporting and others opposing the importance of dialogue among family members, and many of the parents' viewpoints on the importance of education for girls were presented: some spoke of the importance of education as the weapon with which she fights what the days may hide, while others said that educating a girl is a way of increasing her dowry and her chance of marriage and so that she may be called \"educated\", nothing more. On the other hand, some girls mentioned that there are families who prefer to continue the education of boys over girls when there is more than one boy and girl in the same family, and that some families consider a girl's mind deficient and so prefer to marginalise their views in taking decisions concerning the family. In conclusion, the meeting produced the following series of recommendations: 1. Encouraging girls to engage in dialogue and to defend their point of view. 2. Affirming the importance of dialogue in resolving family problems. 3.
