Questions were many about the correct procedures for engagement, the legal classification of marriage and some of the customs and traditions that govern marriage in our Palestinian society, at a training session for the team of the project \"Supporting and empowering women victims of violence\", which aimed at increasing the team's awareness and education, on Tuesday 19\/4. Lawyer Younis Al-Tahrawi noted that the obligation of marriage appears in the ability of the person concerned to bear the costs of marriage, and when he fears falling into indecency for himself and that he will be just with his wife. Its prohibition lies in the case where the person is certain he cannot bear the costs of marriage and that his marriage will inflict injustice on the wife. As for the discouraged marriage, it is the marriage in which it is most likely in the person's view that he will inflict injustice on the wife because of his poor circumstances. Mr. Al-Tahrawi also said that the suitor may see the face and hands of the woman he is asking for, and that the judge may become the guardian of the woman in the event that the father acts unjustly and refuses to marry his daughter to a suitable man for some reason, such as inheritance. Regarding the questions raised by those present about the beginning of the real marriage, Mr. Al-Tahrawi mentioned that the real marriage begins from the marriage contract, and that placing the rings and reading the Fatiha is not sufficient, as some believe. The law required the marriage contract in order to protect the woman's rights and to avoid the problems that may arise between the two parties.
