The Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution held a discussion circle entitled \"Family visitation, hosting, and the problems of enforcement\" at the Centre's premises in the city of Khan Younis on Wednesday 13\/4. The meeting was attended by Dr. Ibrahim Al-Najjar, president of the Khan Younis sharia court of appeal, lawyer Younis Al-Tahrawi, Mukhtar Mohammed Anaba and the director of public relations at the enforcement police in the southern governorate, in addition to a select group of lawyers, enforcement directors and reconciliation figures. The discussion was led by Mr. Samir Al-Muqadama, who set out some of the obstacles facing the family meeting point regarding visitation cases, in terms of the visitation parties failing to attend and the overcrowding of the number of cases referred from the sharia judiciary to the meeting point and their concentration on a single day, in addition to the frequency with which the visitation parties ask for statements to be used against the other party with particular bodies. For his part, Mr. Younis Al-Tahrawi spoke about the idea behind establishing the family meeting point, the role it plays and its branches, in addition to the number of cases the meeting point receives and some success stories. In another vein, Mr. Ibrahim Al-Najjar presented some of the sharia circulars issued by the head of the sharia judicial council concerning the subject of visitation. The director of public relations at the enforcement police explained the role played by the enforcement department in the southern governorate and the facilities it provides for such cases. At the end of the discussion, those present produced a set of recommendations, the most notable of them being to provide the sharia courts in the Strip's governorates with the family meeting point's weekly visitation schedule to avoid overcrowding of cases on a single day, to hold a workshop bringing together the disputing parties to provide legal awareness regarding visitation and custody, in addition to religious awareness and guidance to ease the tension between them, and to open a hotline between the Centre and one of the enforcement officers in case any problem arises, so that it may be overcome and resolved.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
