A series of educational sessions for parents and activity sessions for children was launched on the eighth of this March within the activities and events of the project \"Protecting children from sexual harassment and exploitation\". The educational and activity sessions are considered the backbone of the activities of the project for protecting children from sexual exploitation and harassment, which aim at increasing awareness among parents, children and kindergarten teachers of the subject of sexual harassment in all its forms and shapes and of the ways of preventing and protecting against it, in addition to providing psychological, social and legal support to children who are victims of sexual harassment. The project is carried out in the governorates of the Gaza Strip by the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution in partnership with 25 organisations distributed across the five governorates and with support from the European Union (EU). The number of parents in the target group is expected to reach 5,000 fathers and mothers, along with 4,500 children and 250 kindergarten teachers during this year, 2011. It is noted that the activity sessions for children come in order to help children protect themselves and to help them get past the problems of sexual harassment they may be exposed to, in a simple way suited to their ages, through games and activities, such as teaching them the difference between a good touch and a bad touch and teaching them that a child's body belongs to them, in addition to many other purposeful activities. There are also the education groups targeting carers among parents and kindergarten teachers, which aim at providing them with the skills needed to raise and teach children in a sound way that guarantees their protection from sexual exploitation, and at increasing their sexual literacy so as to guide them towards handling the subject in a rational way that ensures the child's physical safety and provides a safe and protective environment for the child.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
