The director of public relations at the Khan Younis police of the dismissed government called for the police to be committed to applying the law and separating juveniles from adults. This came during a third inspection visit by a delegation from the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution to Khan Younis central prison and the detention centre, in coordination with the public relations department at the Khan Younis police, on Wednesday 5\/1\/2011. The delegation, made up of Mr. Khaled Al-Astal, legal counsellor of the child protection teams, and Mr. Samir Al-Muqadama, social counsellor at the Khan Younis branch, inspected the new Khan Younis holding facility, equipped to receive detainees as agreed during the first visit, where a room has been designated for juveniles, separating them from adults as the law provides, a separate room for those who have committed drug offences, a room designated and equipped for people with special needs, and a room for medical isolation for those with infectious diseases. The delegation then went to Khan Younis central prison, where it toured all the prison's rooms and saw the new construction being carried out. The delegation was received by the director of public relations, the deputy director of public relations and the organisations coordinator at the police public relations department of the dismissed government in Gaza. At a meeting held after the visit ended, the director of public relations at the Khan Younis police affirmed the police's commitment to applying the law and separating juveniles from adults, as well as separating those who have committed serious crimes and habitual offenders from the rest of the prisoners, in addition to separating those in drug cases into dedicated rooms. The Centre's delegation also stressed the need to apply the law at all police stations, following the example of the Khan Younis detention centre and prison.
