The Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution signed the agreement of the project \"Combating violence against women\" with the Norwegian People's Aid office (NPA), in the presence of Mrs. Samah Al-Safadi, board member, Saeed Al-Muqadama, director of the Centre, and Abdel Moneim Al-Tahrawi, the Centre's projects coordinator, while from the Norwegian aid office there attended Youssef Al-Nabaheen, financial director, Mahmoud Hamada, projects director, and Reem Al-Wehaidi, women's projects coordinator.
\nIt should be noted that this signing comes as a continuation of the joint work between the two sides in the field of combating violence against women for the fourth year running.
\nDuring the signing ceremony, Al-Muqadama stressed the importance of the role Norwegian People's Aid plays in supporting Palestinian civil organisations and strengthening their role, particularly amid the difficult conditions our Palestinian people are living through.
\nHe also noted the project's importance in building the capacities of Palestinian civil organisations, explaining that the project began to be carried out at the start of 2007 with the aim of providing psychological, social and legal support to women victims of violence in the Gaza and West Bank governorates, and here it continues for the fourth year running.
\nHe noted that last year, 2009, the project provided services to more than 2,000 women through direct psychological and legal services, in addition to the free phone service.
\nFor her part, Samah Al-Safadi offered her deep thanks to Norwegian People's Aid for its continuous support for the Centre and its concern with community issues, particularly the issue of violence against women. Hamada, for his part, praised the experience of partnership with the Palestinian Center, noting the great challenges facing work in the field of women's issues, particularly in Palestinian society.
\nAl-Tahrawi noted that the project \"Combating violence against women\" aims at providing psychological, community and legal support and assistance to women subjected to violence in the Gaza and West Bank governorates, through a psychological, social and legal team providing direct services to women at the Centre's branches spread across the governorates, in addition to creating a state of awareness by holding dozens of workshops and awareness seminars targeting men and women alike. There is also the free phone service for abused women, which operates throughout the week in all the country's governorates.
