The participants stressed the need for the competent government bodies to supervise video game shops, as one of the most important causes of school dropout. The participants also stressed the need to work on activating extracurricular activities at schools so as to draw pupils to their school desks, along with the need to define permitted and prohibited beating as a form of punishment. The participants called on the competent bodies to reconsider the Palestinian curriculum and to develop it in a way suited to pupils' capacities, calling for work on increasing the number of social counsellors at schools, stressing that one educational counsellor per school is not sufficient given the various problems facing hundreds of pupils in Palestinian schools. Iyad Al-Dirimli, researcher at the Palestinian Center for Conflict Resolution, noted that this session comes within a series of discussion sessions carried out by the media group at the Centre within the project for supporting and empowering women victims of violence, through which the focus is on one of society's pressing issues and an attempt is made to set out recommendations for the decision-makers directly connected with the issue that is the subject of the session. During the session a short film was shown about the reality of school dropout, prepared and produced by the media group at the Centre. The psychologist Saed Al-Sarsawi presented the results of a study carried out by the Centre that pointed to the causes of school dropout, noting that the existence of video game shops is considered one of the strongest causes contributing to pupils dropping out of school, and also contributes to raising the level of violence in society, particularly as those games are on the whole violent games. Al-Sarsawi warned of the danger of video game shops to children, since they provide a gathering place for a large segment of children, which may contribute to the spread of deviant behaviour in the absence of supervision. Al-Sarsawi noted that school violence is considered the second cause leading to school dropout. For his part, Mr. Zuhair Salem, head of the higher education department at the Ministry of Education, distinguished between dropping out during official school hours, what is called truancy, and final dropout, which is leaving formal education, noting that the danger lies in the second type, since the first type is controlled through the cooperation of all the bodies concerned in regulating the educational process. According to Salem, the rate of school dropout during the first semester of the current year reached 1.09%. Salem reviewed the causes of dropout, considering that dropout goes back to a low capacity for study and repeated failure.

[36,2

post-3653","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-36","category-activities
["GET
