Her son was killed, her family destroyed and her house burned, and the media looked only at the full half of the glass, portraying the Palestinian woman as the iron woman, forgetting that she is a human being before anything else, without following up any effects resulting from the aggression, particularly the psychological effects, now that the glare of the media has gone.
In the same vein, the journalist Samar Abu Shammas confirmed that the media coverage during the aggression had shown that the Palestinian woman is no longer psychologically and socially prepared to deal with her previous duties and responsibilities, where the burdens and pressures on her increased after the last aggression, making it difficult for her to deal with household duties and with her children. Therefore our media are required to take a serious stand to reformulate the way women's issues are addressed.
The meeting's guest by telephone, Nisreen Al-Zalmout, coordinator of the project for empowering women victims of violence at the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, Nablus branch, said that women's family burdens had increased after the aggression, where in many families she became the sole breadwinner instead of the husband she had lost, and that this psychological effect will not last long because the Palestinian woman is known for her resilience and her sacrifices.
She added that the community organisations had been able to support the woman and strengthen her steadfastness in the face of the Israeli occupation
She confirmed that the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution had been able to keep pace with the scale of this event by preparing the woman psychologically anew and by contributing to strengthening her self-confidence and to how she deals with her children and with the psychological, legal and social problems she faces.
Samar Shaheen said in an intervention by telephone that the media did not succeed in conveying the woman's image as it should in the wake of the war on Gaza; rather it has become a sword held over her reality, addressing the woman with the image of the iron woman as if she were devoid of feelings and sensations or as if she lived on another planet, and as if sacrificing the members of her family were no more than a cut on her finger."
At the end of the meeting all the participants in the episode stressed the need for the Palestinian media to adopt women's issues and to work on covering all aspects of their suffering in depth and in detail in order to reach solutions.
It is worth noting that the radio episode is broadcast in step with an open meeting organised by the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution on the reality of the media coverage of women, attended by a group of male and female journalists, at which the journalist Samar Shaheen presented a working paper carrying the episode's title (Palestinian women: a crushed reality and a false media).

[36,2

post-3662","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-36","category-activities
["GET
