The Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, within the project for supporting and empowering women victims of violence in Nablus governorate, held a workshop entitled \"The nature of civil society organisations' interventions when violence occurs\", with the participation of 40 women in charge of women's and community centres, on 29\/11\/2011 at the Centre's premises in the city of Nablus.<\/p>\n
At the start of the workshop, Nisreen Zalmout, coordinator of the project for supporting and empowering women victims of violence in Nablus, spoke about the nature of the events and services and the main programmes the Conflict Resolution Center carries out in Nablus governorate. She added: \"Holding this workshop comes within the events of the 16 days to combat violence against women in the country's governorates and with the participation of a number of civil society organisations.\"<\/p>\n
For her part, the specialist at the Conflict Resolution Center, Wurud Yassin, explained the nature of the psychological cases that come to the Centre and that it addresses, ensuring positive changes occur in the psychological and social cases. She noted that the Centre has succeeded in supporting a large number of abused women, and that in the coming period it will carry out a series of programmes against violence against women in the local community.<\/p>\n
The workshop included the screening of a short film entitled \"From us and among us\", which deals with some sexual assaults inside and outside the family framework. The discussion was then opened to comment on the film and to work on finding realistic mechanisms, procedures and recommendations to protect abused women, and the participants were given data on the main organisations that handle these cases, with the aim of increasing coordination and engagement to support women.<\/p>\n
The participants in the workshop recommended intensifying and increasing the holding of workshops with an awareness and educational dimension, targeting the group of female school pupils, coordinating with the local police services, and developing the performance of the directors of women's centres through regular and continuous meetings.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
