The Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, Hebron branch, organised a workshop within the events of the 16 days campaign to combat violence against women, attended by a number of directors and representatives of women's organisations in the villages and rural areas of Hebron governorate and representatives of the local media.<\/p>\n
In an address on behalf of the Conflict Resolution Center, the director of the Hebron branch, Saad Al-Shalalda, presented the Centre's vision and message regarding Palestinian women and their steadfastness in facing challenges and difficulties within the local community. He reviewed the main achievements and women's programmes the Centre has carried out in Hebron governorate in cooperation with the ministries of transport and interior, in addition to the Centre's future plans to support the women's sector.<\/p>\n
For her part, the coordinator of the project for supporting and empowering women in the governorate, Nour Jaber, said: \"The main activities of our project are providing legal and social support to abused women, the free line services, and field activities as well.\" She noted the completion of a number of workshops and guidance points that have contributed to spreading awareness of women's rights and identifying clear mechanisms to protect women from violence of every kind.<\/p>\n
For his part, the director of public relations at the Palestinian police service in Hebron governorate, Ahmed Al-Atawna, set out the mechanisms of local intervention and protection in cases of violence against women and the ways of communicating and coordinating with civil society organisations to provide every form of support to abused women in the local community.<\/p>\n
For her part, the lecturer Sahar Al-Qawasmi, from Hebron University and director of the Adwar Association for Social Change, called for finding a clear formula for defending against family violence independently, in addition to reviewing the causes of the imbalance relating to women's participation and its weakness in Palestinian society.<\/p>\n
The participants recommended the need to carry out a series of workshops and seminars calling for combating violence against women and developing their pioneering role in society in order to reinforce the foundations and building of the Palestinian family, as well as calling for developing and changing some provisions of the personal status law and amending the Palestinian penal code.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
