\nDescription of the problem
\nThe child, aged 11, was referred from the stimulation sessions, where signs had appeared in her (a reddening of the face in sessions, silence and non-participation in activities, nail-biting, strong reactions to questions put by the specialist, and foul language). The specialist then sat with the child to get to know her and to introduce herself, and to gather more information about the child and her family, but the child spoke little and was reserved. After convincing the child that I was there only to help her and that whatever passed between us would remain a secret that no one would know about except someone the child trusted to help her in this matter, the child spoke with the tears pouring from her eyes and disclosed a secret she had been hiding from everyone for two years: that her grandfather, who lives alone in a house away from other people's eyes, abuses the child by touching his genitals to hers. The child says: \"I go to my grandfather in the afternoon to bring him the food my mother has prepared for him. I make sure to take it myself and stop my sisters from going there so that my grandfather does not abuse them and they suffer as I suffer. And when I reach my grandfather's house he takes me to the room without mercy, and I beg him, crying, not to do it, but he does not listen,\" and he threatens the child that if she tells anyone what he does to her he will kill her and throw her body to the dogs (because they live in an empty area full of dogs).<\/p>\n
Diagnosis: sexual abuse
\nCounselling methods: 1. Including the child's paternal aunt in the treatment plan by making the aunt aware that the child was being sexually exploited by her grandfather. The aunt told us that this would not be repeated and that she was able to keep her father in check.<\/p>\n
2. Behavioural and cognitive methods (emotional release, relaxation, learning the means and mechanisms of protection, reassurance, positive reinforcement, counselling by making information available to the client, modelling, the empty chair, acquiring positive behaviours, positive self-talk, and giving her new social skills).
\nIndicators of success: 1. The child's commitment to the session appointments
\n2. The child's satisfaction with herself and her feeling that she is better than she was
\n3. No further abuse of the child and stopping it for good
\n4. The child's feeling of reassurance
\n5. The child's feeling of comfort while sleeping
\n6. Increased confidence of the child in herself and in others
\n7. The child's feeling that her sisters are safe<\/p>\n
