Nablus: on Monday 15\/2\/2016 the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution honoured the students who won the debating league and handed out certificates of appreciation to the students of Al-Quds Open University in Tubas who took part in the training for the activity.
\nMr. Abdel Ghafour, director of the Tubas branch, considered the debating league one of the distinctive activities carried out by the Palestinian Center and Al-Quds Open University, since it gave the participating students a new experience and strengthened their capacities in gathering information and in the ways of presenting it, as well as strengthening their capacity for careful listening and logical analysis and developing their ability to pose questions and to answer them. Abdel Ghafour thanked the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution for its constant and constructive cooperation and thanked the student affairs department staff for their contribution to the success of the various activities, and he called on students to take part in the activities and events.
\nFor her part, the specialist Wurud Yassin stressed that this activity came as a continuation of the efforts made by the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution within the community reconciliation programme, which aims to spread civil peace and the acceptance of differing views. She said the project was divided into several phases, among them the training phase, which centred on the concept of debating and its methods as well as the personal qualities of a debater and ways of developing capacities, and the concepts of citizenship and social accountability, while the second phase saw the preliminary debates held between the students, ending with the final debate.
\nFor her part, Israa Abu Dawwas, one of the winners of the final league, stressed that taking part in the debating league was a distinctive experience, since the participants worked to seek out new information in the field of debating.
