\"Training of Facilitators\/Trainers\"<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n

On Wednesday 06\/04\/2016 the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution concluded a training course entitled \"Training of Facilitators\/Trainers\", within the Elected Director project, in partnership with the Central Elections Commission and funded by the European Union.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0The course was held in the training hall of the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution (Gaza branch) between 04 and 06\/04\/2016, comprising 15 training hours, with 20 trainees taking part.<\/span><\/p>\n

The course programme covered several topics, including: elections as a pillar of the democratic process, the legal framework for elections, electoral systems and the advantages and drawbacks of each, registration procedures, electoral campaigning, monitoring the electoral process, and the rules governing polling day.<\/span><\/p>\n

The training was delivered by trainers from the staff of the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution. Mr. Abdel Moneim Al-Tahrawi opened the training by speaking about the Elected Director project and its objectives in general, noting that the target group is university students and those working in civil society organisations, reached through awareness sessions on elections and a simulation of the elections law by holding elections at two universities, with the winner given the chance to act in the role of director. On facilitation skills and methods, Al-Tahrawi explained that a facilitator or trainer must have strong skills and a high capacity for training and facilitation, stressing in this connection the need to address people according to their level and not to deal with them from a position of superiority. He added that a facilitator must have a good grasp of facilitation methods, including brainstorming, free association and group discussion.<\/span><\/p>\n

The participants valued the distinctive role played by the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution in spreading a culture of elections and the rule of law. They noted the course's strength in its subject matter and the competence of its trainers, praised the quality of the activities and training methods used, took an active part throughout the sessions, and recommended that more courses of the kind be held.<\/span><\/p>\n
