On Friday 25 November 2016, the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, in partnership with Palestine Sports Club, delivered an initiative entitled \"Displaced Children's Football Tournament\", attended by the clubs taking part: Khadamat Rafah Club, Ittihad Shujaiya Club, Ittihad Khan Younis Club and Shabab Beit Hanoun Al-Ahli Club, at the Palestine Sports Club stadium, within the activities of the \"Protect My Right\" project funded by Save the Children International.<\/h5>\n
In his opening address, Mr. Iyad Abu Hjair, deputy director of the Palestinian Center, welcomed those present and stressed that this initiative was delivered to highlight the main violations affecting children in the Gaza Strip, through the participation of displaced children in the tournament, to showcase their sporting talents in the Gaza Strip and to develop those talents by supporting them with the simplest tools available.<\/h5>\n
A draw was held between the clubs: Khadamat Rafah played against Ittihad Shujaiya, who won; Shabab Beit Hanoun Al-Ahli played against Ittihad Khan Younis, won by the displaced children of Khan Younis; and Ittihad Khan Younis played Ittihad Shujaiya in the final, in which Ittihad Shujaiya were crowned champions after beating Ittihad Khan Younis.<\/h5>\n
Mohammed Saeb Jundiya, one of the tournament's players, said: \"Tournaments like this show who we are, and through them we express our needs in an acceptable, civilised way such as sport.\" Muhannad added: \"We got to know other players like us, and this tournament gave us strong psychological support.\"<\/h5>\n
In this context, project coordinator Youssef Salem noted that this tournament falls within the child protection system, particularly in monitoring and documenting the main violations children suffer as a result of being denied their basic rights, such as the right to play and to recreation and the right to a dignified life.<\/h5>\n
At the end of the initiative, Mr. Iyad Abu Hjair, deputy director of the Palestinian Center, together with Mr. Iyad Al-Dreimly, chair of the board of Palestine Sports Club, which hosted the tournament, honoured all the children taking part, in appreciation of their role in showcasing Palestinian talent and in speaking about children's rights as a priority among the needs of Palestinian society.<\/h5>\n
