The Palestinian Center delivered an advocacy campaign led by advocacy specialist Shereen Al-Bayari within the project \"Empowering civil society organisations, caregivers and children\" to respond to violence against children, at the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, with the support of the project team and a select group of the Centre's staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The campaign aimed to reduce the incidence of physical and verbal violence against students in schools and to increase teachers' use of positive measures to guide and modify students' behaviour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In delivering the activities, the advocacy specialist drew on three advocacy strategies: awareness raising, coordination and cooperation, and confrontation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The activities included creating a page called \"Protect My Right\" for campaign communication, and holding awareness meetings for parents in schools on how to prepare monitoring and documentation reports and report violations of children's rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A number of school radio broadcasts were produced by children's committees to raise awareness among children of the dangers of violence and of the need to claim the right to protection. They were aimed at teachers and at children themselves in order to end the violence practised against children in schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, coordination and cooperation took place with schools, partner institutions, media professionals, mosque preachers and parents to deliver these activities in five schools across the Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sermons were delivered in mosques to fathers, urging the use of the positive child-rearing methods called for by the Prophet, peace be upon him, and moving away from violence in dealing with their children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alongside the sermons, recreational days were held inside schools with many events, competitions, games and puppets, aimed at easing the psychological pressure on children resulting from violence, raising slogans calling for the child's right to protection from violence and for the use of positive child-rearing in dealing with children inside schools. Posters on positive child-rearing methods for modifying students' behaviour were distributed to parents and teachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\nIn addition, a form was made available for reporting any violation against a child, with a call to everyone not to stay silent in the face of any violation, because #Protecting_Children_Is_Everyone's_Responsibility\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
