As part of the activities of the project \"Towards Community Peace: Gender-Sensitive Mediation\", the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution held a specialized workshop on supporting democracy and conflict resolution in Old Askar Camp, in cooperation with the Popular Committee for the Services of Old Askar Camp and Abna'una Association for People with Special Needs, at the Ibn Al-Mukhayyam Hall of the Popular Committee.<\/p>\n
The session was facilitated by Ahmad Abu Ayesh, director of the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, Wurud Yasin, the Center's projects coordinator, and Mr. Amjad Al-Asmar, the project's mediation expert, with the participation of the head of the Popular Committee Majed Abu Kishk, the head of Abna'una Association Ahmad Abu Saada, and a number of community representatives and trainees of the community mediation team.<\/p>\n
The workshop aimed to form a ten-member community mediation committee from among the training participants, with a balanced participation of women and men, to strengthen peaceful mechanisms for resolving community disputes inside Old Askar Camp, in coordination and cooperation with the Popular Committee and Abna'una Association.<\/p>\n
During the event, the Center's director Ahmad Abu Ayesh and projects coordinator Wurud Yasin welcomed the Canadian representative Graham Dattels and valued his visit. Abu Ayesh stressed its importance in strengthening partnerships that support community initiatives contributing to civil peace, while Wurud Yasin presented the importance of forming the community mediation committee, how it works, and the course and objectives of the session.<\/p>\n
For his part, the head of the Popular Committee Majed Abu Kishk stressed the importance of supporting the camps and strengthening joint work to serve all groups of society, emphasizing the need for continued cooperation with partner institutions.<\/p>\n
The head of Abna'una Association Ahmad Abu Saada also valued the visit, describing it as an expression of Canada's interest in supporting the local community and the community mediation project implemented by the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution.<\/p>\n
During the session, the Canadian representative listened to the participants' contributions and views and discussed their directions and aspirations, in support of initiatives that promote dialogue and community peace.<\/p>\n
This workshop is part of the Center's efforts to promote a culture of dialogue and community mediation and to build effective local capacities that contribute to community peace and social stability.<\/p>\n\n
