Launch of the project "An Advanced Step Towards Justice in the Gaza Strip"

The Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution launched the project "An Advanced Step Towards Justice in the Gaza Strip" in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) under the Sawasya programme. Staff of the legal unit department took part in the meeting to discuss the objectives planned from the start on 1/5/2016 until the end of February 2017. The meeting was held in the Palestinian Center's training hall.

 The team is working towards achieving the project's objectives precisely and effectively. Those objectives centre on facilitating marginalised groups' access to justice without economic or institutional barriers tied to the underlying judicial and political system produced by the political division, which was itself preceded by a series of social and cultural barriers. The project also aims to raise citizens' legal awareness, particularly among marginalised groups, and to activate the role of the informal justice system, represented by reconciliation figures and tribal adjudication, so as to bring their practice into line with the rule of law and the principles of justice.

These objectives are achieved through strategies and solutions for providing legal aid and for training sharia lawyers, and through lobbying and advocacy campaigns aimed at improving policies and legal procedures, by means of media activities, events and round-table meetings, in order to activate both formal and informal oversight mechanisms.
