The Palestinian Center concludes the final stage of the debating league

The Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution today concluded the final stage of the debating league in the Gaza Strip, part of the events of the Youth for Civil Peace project funded by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, which aims to strengthen the concepts of civil peace among young people within Palestinian society.
The adjudication panel, made up of Hanin Al-Samak, Wael Baalousha and Sami Ghoneim, set the final results of the debate, which saw Al-Azhar University take first place and Gaza University second.
The debate set out the pointsof view of the two teams, one supporting and the other opposing the proposition that "allocating certain government lands to Gaza employees as dues owed to them helps resolve the living difficulties they face". Each team set out the reasons and motives behind the view it presented during the debate, drawing on a number of reports, statistics and press statements by public figures connected to the subject under debate to establish their view. The debate also addressed the legal, political and humanitarian aspects of the subject.
At the close of the debate the certificates were handed out and the winners honoured, while consolation prizes were given to the runners-up and certificates of thanks were distributed to the students who took part in the debating league. The management of the Palestinian Center honoured the participants from the Palestinian universities (Dr. Abdel Khaleq Al-Farra, president of Al-Azhar University, and Dr. Mahmoud Al-Hamadiyat, dean of student affairs at Gaza University) and the adjudication panel, who cooperated so positively in making the league a success.
