The Palestinian Center organises a workshop, "Readiness Makes Change"

The Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, Khan Younis branch, today organised a workshop under the banner "Readiness Makes Change", with the aim of presenting the achievements of the project "Community partnership for psychological and life resilience", which seeks to improve the capacities of local and vulnerable communities by strengthening the ways in which they confront risks.
The first session gave a detailed presentation of the project's main achievements in terms of the nature of the sessions delivered to the groups it targeted, children, specialists and parents, on a number of topics, among them psychological resilienceand the dangers of unexploded ordnance and how to deal with them. The names were also presented of six local committees formed of a number of organisations and local activists, representing the six areas the project targeted (Abasan al-Kabira, Rafah, Al-Shoka, Shujaiya, Jabalia and Beit Lahia). They were trained on a number of topics, including first aid and disaster management, and a series of meetings was held with the committees formed in order to identify the needs of the target areas before a hazard occurs, drawn from the results of the focus groups the project carried out.
The second session presented the risk reduction plans for each area, put forward by each of the local committees working in the target areas, along with the intervention and response measures.
Opening the workshop, Mr. Saeed Al-Muqadama, director general of the Palestinian Center, gave an address on behalf of the Centre in which he set out the importance of partnership. He welcomed the partners from Save the Children, the Agricultural Relief Committees and Medical Relief, and praised the importance of the local committees' work as an essential part of the project.
For his part, Mr. Ibrahim Subeih, representing Save the Children, gave an address praising the importance and role of the committees in contributing to the project's success, and thanked all the partners for their great efforts in making it a success.
Ms. Shorouq Jundiya gave the address on behalf of the Agricultural Relief Committees, speaking about the project's achievements and its importance in improving the economic situation of marginalised families.
At the close of the workshop the participants drew up recommendations and proposals for improving the project, to be taken into account in the phase to come.
