The Centre concludes a training course entitled "Addressing low motivation and academic delay"
The Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education's educational counselling department, concluded the training course it organised on "Addressing low motivation and academic delay", within the child protection teams project in partnership with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), on the morning of Thursday 25/2/2010, with the participation of 55 counsellors from the government schools distributed across the Strip's governorates. During it, several strands were addressed on the problem of motivation and academic delay and the mechanisms for addressing it, in addition to discussing the role of the parents, the pupil and the teacher in raising the level of motivation and addressing academic delay in pupils. During the training course the strands were discussed at length using various training methods, from brainstorming and small groups to open discussion in large groups and so on. The trainer, Ms. Hadia Al-Bourno, also set out various strands to embody the problem and to put in place preventive solutions in practice, through role play and practical enactment by the counsellors to convey the idea and how to deal with it on the ground. She also stressed the importance of the counsellor's role inside the school and the need for it to be complemented by the parents' role in order to provide counselling services properly. She praised the Centre's role and called for many other specialised, in-depth courses to go deeper into case study and group counselling. The participants set out a number of recommendations at the end of the training, and the training course attracted the participants' interest as a course specialised in the field of addressing low motivation and academic delay, which are part of the burdens facing both the teacher and the pupil in the educational process.
