Building the capacity of staff from the seven partner municipalities on community participation and social accountability
Within the Marginalised Local Communities Development Project in partnership with seven municipalities in the central and southern Gaza Strip (Al-Bureij, Al-Qarara, New Abasan, Khuza'a, Al-Shoka, Al-Nasr and Rafah), implemented through the Municipal Development and Lending Fund (MDLF) with funding from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the German development agency GIZ.
On Thursday 12 March 2020, the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution concluded a training course for 20 staff members of the partner municipalities, covering topics on institutionalising community participation and social accountability, how to use and practically apply community participation indicators, and the concept of social accountability and how to apply its tools.
Participants included those responsible for public relations and media, the complaints unit and the Strategic Development and Investment Planning (SDIP) unit in the seven municipalities.
It is worth noting that this training falls under Task 2, namely designing and implementing a plan to build the capacity of citizens and municipalities in community participation and social accountability Under this task, training and capacity building on community participation and social accountability were delivered to some 285 participants from the marginalised local communities in the seven partner municipalities, and 52 participants qualified for the advanced courses in community participation, social accountability and facilitation of training sessions after passing an assessment test, qualifying them to act as social accountability ambassadors in their communities.
