The barrier of silence
Prepared by Ayat Masran. The human soul is the axis of a universe whose essence none knows but God: in it are hidden secrets and unknown depths, and within a single soul there is a magical radar that picks up truths and illusions. This psychological radar is millions of times stronger than the mighty inventions of science, for it directs the mind through a set of orbits and circles. We are surprised with astonishment at something ordinary and familiar, and excessive sorrows strike us with no prior appointment; we find comfort in a voice we hear for the first time and reject voices that may seem acceptable to the ears of others. A person's heart is his guide, of that there is no doubt, and sometimes a heart soars in delight and happiness and beats and beats between the ribs of its owner, who wonders: what will happen today? Asmaa was surprised, after living in a world of dreadful silence and deadly stillness, by the existence of an immediate treatment to break the barrier of silence in which she had dwelt for ten years, namely a cochlear implant in her ear. She quickly packed her bags and set off for Egyptian soil, which might be the beginning of the end of silence. And after taking the first step in her life, namely the operation to implant a cochlea in her ear, and after hearing the first whisper of sound from her mother, the birth of a new life for Asmaa was announced. The moments turned into days and the days into words and the words into poetry, and sounds entered her being that rebuilt what had been destroyed and brought her back from that path, made her forget behind her the painful, sad past, and returned her to the shores of life beside the stream to water her hearing, which had long lived in a barren desert that tormented it with its silent arrows. And now the time has come for the next step in Asmaa's life after her cochlear implant. After her return to Gaza, and through her follow-up at the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, speech and language department, by giving her speech therapy sessions, engaging the organs of speech and articulation, using language sessions and exercises on the points of articulation of the letters, Asmaa, with her determination and insistence on speaking and hearing her own voice, has reached the final stage of replacing the sign language of the deaf with her own tongue, through correct articulation, reciting the noble Qur'an well and speaking properly. And from here everything in Asmaa's life turned into instruments moved by the fingers of time however they wish. I say whispered words and hope that their written letters may touch the depths of souls bewildered about treating their children, and I say that an open mind is a balance that weighs things precisely, and a beating heart is a just sovereign as long as this heart lives with an emotion it gives to others, suffering for the misery of the wretched passer-by and rejoicing at the happiness of a weak person from whom it hopes for nothing but that he be happy; and as long as the beating heart is a spring of human love and a flowing generosity; and as long as this mind believes with an unshakeable faith that the human soul is the axis of a vast universe whose hidden depths none knows but God.
