Conflict Resolution celebrates the graduation of 60 reconciliation figures to strengthen their legal capacities in Gaza

The Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution and the Justice for All project celebrated the graduation of 60 reconciliation figures and mukhtars after they received a training course to strengthen the legal capacities of reconciliation figures. The celebration was held at the Centre's main premises in Gaza City.
At the start of the ceremony, the director general of the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, Saeed Al-Muqadama, stressed the importance of strengthening the relationship between the law and customs and traditions in Palestinian society through continuous coordination with reconciliation figures. He added: "We remember your effective contribution and your standing beside our Centre during the marches and calls to end the division and your participation in influencing decision-makers to restore national unity between the two parts of the homeland."
For his part, the director of the Rule of Law and Access to Justice Programme, Ibrahim Abu Shamala, explained that the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is focusing its strategy in the coming period on the role of tribal adjudication as an informal judiciary in achieving national reconciliation. He praised the legal performance of reconciliation figures in resolving citizens' cases and their contribution to achieving social cohesion.
For his part, Dr. Omar Nofal, president of the Sharia Court of Appeal, expressed his appreciation for holding these courses, which are connected with achieving and strengthening the concepts of justice in Palestinian society and ending social disputes. He pointed to the need to support reconciliation figures in achieving justice for the groups of Palestinian society, the most important of them women, who need support and protection within society.
In an address on behalf of the participants, Mukhtar Abu Islam Al-Atawna valued the continuing efforts of the Conflict Resolution Center and the trainers in developing their legal capacities in arbitration law, the law of evidence and personal status and in educating them in ways of resolving community problems on legal and professional foundations. He expressed the readiness of reconciliation figures to play an effective role within society in rooting the concepts of law and social justice through active participation in building the homeland.
It is worth noting that the Justice for All project at the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution has carried out the first and second phases of strengthening the legal capacities of reconciliation figures in the Gaza and Khan Younis governorates, within the project's plan of engaging with a number of groups in society connected with the concepts of justice and law.
