A push forward towards empowering abused women economically
In an initiative made available to the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution to provide support and economic empowerment to abused women, the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution helped two women to start a small project providing them and their families with a secure income. With funding from two women abroad, the Centre distributed two dairy cows to Mrs. Najah Al-Kilani and Mrs. Mufida Al-Hasouni to start a productive project by making use of the yield to produce milk, cheese and their derivatives and to sell them, which helps them overcome life's difficulties and provide a secure income for their families. It is noted that these two women were chosen on the basis of specific criteria: that their economic situation is difficult, that there is no one to provide for their family, and in addition that they have experience in raising livestock. The Centre also followed up the project's progress by making field visits to them, and an arrangement was made with a dedicated veterinarian to follow up the necessary medical care and carry out regular check-ups. For her part, Mrs. Najah stated that she has begun working, producing and selling milk and making its derivatives such as yoghurt, cheese and others, and that she has outlets for selling. Al-Kilani mentioned that the family's daily expenses have begun to be met through selling the produce, and that the economic situation has become better to some degree, in addition to owning the cow, which is considered productive capital.
