The women of Bayt Jdoudna engage with the popular proverbs initiative of the Young Leaders project in Gaza

More than 25 elderly women with experience in reciting popular proverbs engaged with the initiative as part of their participation in an open day, in coordination with the initiatives of the Young Leaders project carried out by the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution in partnership with five associations across the Gaza Strip.
On the nature of the young women's initiative, the field coordinator of the Young Leaders project at the Centre, Eng. Iman Abu Saeed, said the initiative is new of its kind and consists of shedding light on the forms of violence against women as portrayed in a number of popular proverbs that address this subject. She explained that the idea of the initiatives focuses on enabling women university graduates to apply the administrative skills they received during the life skills training and giving them space to express their views, which will give them the ability to find suitable job opportunities in the future.
For her part, the graduate Ahlam Omar, one of the participants in the Young Leaders project, said that sitting with elderly women helped increase the initiative members' knowledge by listening to the stories and experiences of women who spoke about the finest and the hardest experiences they had been through over past years. She added: "The event's success came from joining efforts with the Graduates Association and coordinating with the Bayt Jdoudna club, in order to increase public awareness among women about their issues, and it was an opportunity for us to engage with a new group in society."
It is noted that the Young Leaders project is carried out with funding from the Spanish Basque Country and under the auspices of the Gender Initiative programme at the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), and focuses on social issues concerning young people, among them health, the environment, participation and education, in addition to culture and the arts.
