Ways of preventing and protecting children from sexual harassment
Children should be made aware of ways to keep clear of these dangers, since prevention is better than cure. Children are protected and kept safe from the harm of falling into these dangers by several means, among them the following:
1. Taking the initiative in making children aware from an early age, by every available and possible means.
2. Watching children wisely while they play, without being domineering.
3. Avoiding leaving children's affairs in the hands of drivers and domestic staff.
4. Making sure of the nature of adults' relationships with children and of their good intentions, however closely related they are to the child.
5. Mothers should take precautions and protect their children from deviant individuals present among family members, such as the father and brothers, or among those close to others.
6. The behaviour of deviant or disturbed individuals present among family members should be restrained in order to prevent harm and assault on their children, brothers or sisters.
7. Watching the behaviour of domestic staff and their relationship with children.
8. Warning mothers against touching young children's private parts in play in order to make them laugh and be amused, which has grave psychological consequences in later life.
9. Surrounding the child with love and affection and with an atmosphere of cooperation and reassurance, and giving them the opportunity to speak about what troubles them.
10. Protecting schoolchildren from harmful practices by not leaving them in the facilities for long periods or in neglected and empty rooms, so that they do not find an opportunity to engage in such behaviour.
11. Watching children as they go to and from school or other places.
12. Preventing children from going to deserted places and warning them against it, so that deviant individuals do not find their opportunity to assault them.
13. Separating children when they sleep as far as possible, and if they must sleep together, watching over them.
14. Taking care that parents do not have sexual relations near children or where the children can hear what passes between them.
15. Encouraging children to keep to the teachings of their faith and the morals of their society, both morally and materially, by setting prizes for those who keep to these high morals and to good conduct and behaviour.
16. Providing and facilitating opportunities for marriage in all its forms, away from excessive dowries and extravagant celebrations and the other things that make marriage difficult for those who cannot afford it.
17. Planting religious teachings by easy and simple means in order to protect children from falling into or engaging in various deviant behaviours, among them sexual harassment.
18. The media should limit the means that encourage deviance, such as films, series, newspapers, books, discs and the like, and work to protect young people from falling into the clutches of the crime of sexual harassment.
19. Providing the conditions required for staff working in centres that protect young people, so that they do not come to harm from the deviant individuals who lie in wait for them.
